Mission Impossible Fallout is the 6th film in the long running Mission Impossible series, which originally began in 1996 and is still going strong. The film stars Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Fergusson, Sean Harris, Angela Basset, Vanessa Kirby and Michelle Monaghan. Mission Impossible Fallout comes directed by Christopher McQuarrie who some may know as the director of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation or Jack Reacher, both of which also star Tom Cruise.

When first seeing the trailer for Mission Impossible Fallout some time ago, I was initially quite excited about the next instalment for this series. I have been quite impressed with the last few Mission Impossible experiences and have increasingly liked them more and more ever since I saw M:I3 at the cinema a few years ago. Coming out of Mission Impossible Fallout last week, I’m happy to say that this is one of the best films in the series so far, if not, arguably the best one in the series.

While I had some doubts about how good this film was before I went in, there’s always the chance that with the 6th film in the series they might miss the mark completely, somehow they didn’t. Christopher McQuarrie has done exceptionally well with this film. The fight scenes have impact, the tone seems to feel just right for every moment and the cinematography in certain scenes is amongst the best of any film so far in 2018. It’s been a few days since I’ve seen this one and I honestly don’t have a thing to complain about, I can’t wait to watch it again.

For those who are going into this film to see a big action blockbuster. Mission Impossible Fallout will deliver everything you want and more. There are two action scenes in this film that for me were highlights of the experience, one was a moment where Ethan (Tom Cruise) and August (Henry Cavill) were fighting some bad guy in a bathroom and the other was towards the end of the film. The lead up to the ending where we reach a climax of action moments is certainly done very well and I was very impressed with how everything turned out and looked. I do wish I could spoil the film and just talk about how good some of the scenes were, but I want you all to go and see them for yourself.

As far as blockbuster films go for 2018, Mission Impossible Fallout is the best of the bunch and the thing I like about it the most is that it’s not a CGI heavy action film, in fact there’s barely any CGI. Another plus as well is that Tom Cruise did all the stunts himself too.

The acting in this film is another massive plus. There’s quite a few great actors in this one and they all seem to get their moment. Tom Cruise is definitely the main standout as the lead and he certainly delivers. Even though this is the sixth time we’ve seen him in the role, he’s not boring at all and after coming out of this film last week, I’d be happy to see him in another six. It was good to see Michelle Monaghan return to the series, I’ve actually been wanting her character to return for a while now. Henry Cavill was also very good in this film and as far as his recent films go, this is one of his better performances, he got a lot to do in this one. Everyone else was also pretty great.

Music was used well in Mission Impossible Fallout. I found it interesting that some fight scenes took place in the film with no music at all and just the sound of punches or other things during fights. When the music was left out, it made these scenes feel very powerful in the cinema and much more tense. But when the music was put in the background in other scenes, it helped to keep the pace fast and quick. This way things didn’t feel like they were slowing down at any point. The film also has quite a good soundtrack, I’ve been listening to it a few times on Spotify after seeing the film and it’s got a lot of great tracks.

The one warning that I’d like to give people that I wish I knew before I went in and saw this is that you should go and see the previous film before watching this one. Although I had watched the previous film in the cinema when it came out, I hadn’t actually re-watched it at all since. But I want to let you all know that the previous film in the series is actually referenced quite a lot and if you haven’t seen it at all it might mess up your experience slightly. The plot of Mission Impossible Fallout isn’t entirely linear and it does aim to keep the viewer guessing all throughout it. It’s not the hardest film to follow by any means, but it can confuse you. So take my advice and re-watch MI:5 before you go in to see MI:6.

Overall Mission Impossible Fallout is an excellent action film experience. Being the sixth film in the franchise, there are no signs of things slowing down at all. In fact it seems like things are getting even better as this is arguably one of the best films of the series so far. All the actors including Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Fergusson, Sean Harris, Angela Basset, Vanessa Kirby and Michelle Monaghan all put in some great work. I appreciated all the stunt work from Tom Cruise and when it comes to action moments and sequences the film won’t disappoint. Christopher McQuarrie has done a fantastic job with the directing of this film and as far as big budget blockbusters go in 2018, this is the best of the bunch so far. As I’m struggling to find any negative points for this film other than having to re-watch MI:5, I’m happy to recommend seeing this one when it releases this weekend.
