Caution: There Are Spoilers In This Dragon Ball Super Episode 84 Review
The universe survival tournament is drawing ever closer as each goes week goes by, with Goku and Gohan looking to recruit the best fighters from their universe to stand up and fight against the best fighters of all the other universes who are competing for their survival.
This week we see Goku and Gohan travel to Krillin’s house in order to recruit him into their team. Fans of the show will remember a few episodes back, a large standalone episode was devoted to Krillin and his training, in which Goku assisted him. It seems since then he’s been training, but we haven’t seen much of it and it’s been a few episodes now. Gohan isn’t so sure about Krillen and to be honest when the episode began, I wasn’t either. So a challenge is made and Krillin and Gohan fight.
It’s actually quite interesting what happened here, when I first heard of Krillin fighting in the tournament I wondered what if his solar flare ability would even be of much use and since I saw Perfect Cell block his Destructo Disc in the Cell Games, I wondered really what Krillin could do. It turns out quite a bit actually. He goes up against Gohan, uses Solar Flare x 100 which blinds Gohan and then he kicks Gohan out-of-bounds and wins the match. I say great work Krillin! But I do question really where Gohan is with his power at moment, it’s hard to rank him amongst the fighters as he seems to fluctuate from episode to episode.
Goku gets as excited as he usually does when he sees a cool fighter and wants to have a go with Krillin as well. I loved the fight between the two. With so much of the show focused on the Saiyans, their abilities are often the same and Krillin has so many different attacks, he’s a fun fighter to watch. Now while I think Goku wasn’t really going hard on Krillin here, it was interesting to see the two in action. There’s a bit where Goku goes into his blue form which terrifies Krillin because it’s so much “pressure” fighting against that. I feel Goku did this to Krillin to show him what he was going to be up against in the tournament, to prepare him in a way. But in the end it was actually Goku who got taught a lesson, when 18 kicked their attacks away. You can see that while Goku is strong, he’s vulnerable when he’s attacking like that, so in a team fight, it’s not guaranteed he’d do well in a moment like that, he needs the others if he wants to win.
With the revelations from the two battles, it seems Goku and Gohan have both learnt something about their strategy going forward. It was a good episode overall, seeing Krillin fight was a lot of fun. Although I am quite keen to see what 18 can do.
What’s more interesting, it seems from the preview for next week that we have a fight coming up between Majin Buu and Goku. If you notice, Buu is slimmed down. One of my favourite fights of the preview tournament was Buu v Basil. But it appears Buu has been training and he’s even stronger, it’s exciting to think how he would fare against Goku next week.
