Fly Me To The Moon is a film which comes directed by Greg Berlanti who some may know as the director of Love Simon (2018). The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum and Woody Harrelson.
When I first saw the posters for this film, I was interested to see how it was. I like all of the actors that were cast in this and there’s not many romantic comedies made these days, I’m not sure why they are less common but movies Fly Me To The Moon don’t appear much. So for me, seeing this at the cinema this week, it was something different to see.
In this film, Scarlett Johansson’s character (Kelly) is a marketing executive who is good at her job. She’s so good, that the President of the USA sends Moe (Woody Harrelson) to recruit her to do the marketing for the Apollo missions. This is where she meets Cole (Channing Tatum) who works at NASA. When Kelly arrives at NASA, this is where the romance starts between her and Cole.
I found this movie to be quite in the first half, but then I felt like it lost its way in the second half. There’s another plot in this film that runs alongside the romance plot. The movie gets caught up in conspiracy theories about whether or not the moon landing mission was real or not. Kelly’s character gets tasked with filming a ‘fake’ version of the landing. This is okay, but it takes so much time in the film, that it’s distracting from the main plot.
The actors are all good enough. Everyone was pleasant. There weren’t really any intense scenes in this film, most of it all was very calm.
As a movie to see this weekend, I would say to only go and see it if you really want to see something in the romantic comedy genre. This film is not intense and it’s a calm movie to watch, that’s the experience you’ll have at the cinema. I don’t really like the moon landing conspiracy stuff in this film, so that’s the only negative point I see that cause me not to like it. As a romantic comedy genre film, this one is just okay.
