Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a film which comes directed by George Miller who many will know for his work on the Mad Max series of films (both old and new). This film stars Anya Taylor Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
This is the second film in the recent Mad Max series revival from George Miller. The first Mad Max in recent years, Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is still one of my favourite action films in the last decade. I had high expectations for this film due to how good Fury Road was and was not disappointed at all once I came out of the cinema this weekend. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is another great action film from George Miller.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). It tells the story of Furiosa from when she was a young kid, all the way up to the events of Fury Road. You will learn and see what life growing up in the Wasteland was like for Furiosa and all the insane things that happened to her there. The story is told quick and fast, in a similar way to the first movie. The pacing in this film is quick and even though the run time is 2 hours and 28 minutes, it just flew by.
The special effects and action sequences are exceptionally good. This movie is really a pure action movie and not really anything else first and the amount of car chases, explosions and crazy stunts that occur is a lot. There’s no shortage of fun to be had at the cinema with this movie. However, I felt a little bit like the first film was a bit better than this one, but I can’t really figure out why. Maybe because it felt new and fresh, whereas this one is doing more of the same.
The acting was good. I liked Anya Taylor Joy’s performance as Furiosa. I also thought that Chris Hemsworth’s performance as the film’s villain was good enough but probably stretched his skills a bit. The other actors are all very entertaining. The many war boys and other crazy looking characters were all wonderful.
There’s not much more to say about this film, it’s a pure action adventure movie. The stunts and special effects are very well done and this makes the action sequences some of the best you may see at the cinema this year. The story helps to expand the lore of the Mad Max universe and you’ll learn a lot about how the Wasteland functions. Overall it’s a very interesting film and I’m happy to recommend this as something to see at the cinema this weekend.
