Your new Adventure starts in Batuu, the Edge of the Galaxy.
The Sims 4 and Disney have collaborated and Journey to Batuu is born. A first time experience for The Sims franchise, Journey to Batuu is almost a completely stand-alone game pack. Your sims can now “holiday” to the Galaxy’s Edge, planet of Batuu. Three destinations are available to explore — The Dark Spire, “The Resistance Hideout” and the “First Order” Barracks.
The Galaxy’s Edge
Don’t worry about jumping to Hyper Drive. The journey to Batuu is just as simple as making a Phone Call and “Taking a Vacation”. While in Batuu, your sims will dress in Batuuan clothing, use Galaxy Credits and will need to “freshen up” their needs at the at “The Dwelling”.
When you arrive in Batuu, you have a few things to do to get your bearings around The Black Spire Outpost. Black Spire Outpost is the place to make friends, learn new skills, purchase food and beverages (all of which are exact copies from the menu at Disneyland) and start your adventure. There are three “factions” to choose and depending on what path you take — determines the fate of your Sim. *insert Darth Vader Heavy Breathing here*
What faction will you choose? The Resistance, The First Order… or will you become a Scoundrel and work for yourself?
You can choose to support the Resistance, the First Order or become a Scoundrel. Each branch will present you with missions to complete in order to rise the ranks and unlock the story of the “Journey to Batuu”. Each mission uses the different faction to spy, hack or steal information and report back. It can get repetitive , but it does feel like an adventure nonetheless. From the detail alone, this new Gamepack is definitely a Labour of Love between EA and Disney.
There are “limited” interactions in Batuu that we would normally be able to do in The Sims 4. Sim’s currency and inventory do not carry over into The Galaxy’s Edge, so everyone will start at the same level. Simmer’s who play with Occult Sims will notice their powers don’t work, you cannot have a baby — there aren’t even any toilets on Batuu! I feel like this does limit the “sims experience” but, it also means that you can have a second life on Batuu which doesn’t affect anything back in your “normal” sims game.
What’s New?
Layers, straps, belts and neutral colours to fight the Climate on the Edge of the Galaxy. The new Create-A-Sim clothing and accessories are straight out of the Disneyland Park Costume Department. There are outfits to be unlocked as you complete the gameplay missions — whether you want to join the light or dark side, or cause trouble as a scoundrel.
The collection of items for Build Mode and Buy Mode is out of this world (literally?). From the detail alone, this new Gamepack is definitely a Labour of Love between EA and Disney. The Sims team created every piece of detail for the alley’s of Dark Spire, to the classic X-Wing fighters. Bring back a taste of Batuu to your sim’s home in Willow Creek — this is all available in the catalog, and even more using the Build Cheats. (I’ve added the cheats to the bottom of the article for those who are interested in how to make the most out of Build and Buy mode)
There are a few hidden gems in Create-A-Sim — without spoiling too much… we have Kylo’s classic outfit, Jawas and the Batuu Resistance Representative; Vi Moradi’s flight outfit. After you’ve dressed your sim in the coolest Batuuan wear, and added a First Order Flag to the front of your residence — time to take part in the Star Wars.
My Opinion
Me? A Star Wars, Disney and Sims fan?
I was able to play the Star Wars Game Pack on stream on the day of release, thanks to EA Game Changers. The first time I sent my Sim to Batuu I was very emotional because this is the Disney Park! I have travelled to every Disney Park in the world, but I haven’t had a chance to get to Galaxy’s Edge yet — and due to the pandemic — probably won’t be able to for a while.
The map is the same, the costumes that the Cast Members wear in the park are the same as the clothing in Create-A-Sim, and even the food that you can order in The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu is exactly the same as the food you can order in the “real” Batuu. The fact that I can travel to Disneyland without leaving my house — and I’m still playing The Sims… I was almost in tears.
The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu is definitely a stand alone pack. Two weeks on, I don’t feel excited to play anymore. The Star Wars content doesn’t integrate with existing play very much at all. Once I finish the missions, I don’t think I will finish the other two factions. Once you’ve completed one, you’ve pretty much done it all.
