The Last Of Us Part 1 is a remake of ‘The Last Of Us’, a game released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013. You can find my review of the original game right here.
For those familiar with The Last Of Us game already, there’s no need really for me to explain how good it is. We all know it was highly regarded when it was released all those years ago. We all know that it was highly polished, had a great story and some revolutionary gameplay for the time. Many of us have played it over and over again over the years. It’s a great game and if for some reason you’ve never experienced The Last Of Us before, are new to gaming or just somehow missed out on it. That’s okay because this year we got the remake and it looks better and plays better than it ever did in the past.
There are two types of buyers for this game. The first group are the fans. These are people who have played the original game and want to play it again, but with upgraded graphics and modern refresh rates so good that they might even get blown away a second time by the same game. I am in this group and for me, I was very impressed with how this game looked. The environments are beautiful, the character models are detailed and the lighting effects are better than I expected. The frame rates on the PS5 are very smooth and it’s just a beautiful experience.
I’d be happy to simply recommend it to all fans, but the game only really has one caveat. Whilst it is visually impressive and the gameplay is very smooth. It is still the same game. It’s the same story, the same cutscenes etc. It’s a remake. I felt when playing through this that it was great and wonderful. But I’ve also done it all before. I mention this mainly because the price of this game at launch was high and at the time of writing is still high. If you’re concerned about parting with your money because you are a fan but aren’t sure if you should. I’d say maybe hold off a little and wait for a sale. I think you’ll feel much better. The boosted graphics are nice but I’d price it as a good buy if you can get it for $20 or so.
For readers who have never played The Last Of Us before, this is a game I’d highly recommend adding to your collection. There’s no better time to play this game and I wish I could have played it for the first time with these nice new modern graphics. The only caveat I’d say this group of players needs to consider is that this was a game made for the PS3. The gameplay and types of challenges were new at the time but they have aged and have been copied many times over by other game developers from multiple studios in later releases of many games over the years. But that’s really the only negative, the game is still phenomenal.
The Last Of Us is a well-known masterpiece and it is very much loved by the PlayStation fandom. It’s an excellent third-person adventure game that tells a very compelling story. If you’ve never played it before, the story you’ll experience will rock your emotions side to side. This remake has some of the best visuals on the PS5. The voice acting is still excellent and the music and sounds of the weapons and other in-game moments are executed perfectly. Add this to your collection if you’ve never played it before but if you have in the past and are cautious to spend, it’s okay to wait for a good sale.
