Will Smith has already signed on for a sequel to his upcoming Netflix movie Bright, according to Bloomberg.
The film is a buddy cop crime film set in a world where humans co-exist with fantasy creatures. LAPD Officer Daryl Ward (Smith) and his rookie orc partner Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton, The Great Gatsby) come across a magic wand that can grant any wish. It’s up to our heroes to keep the wand out of the wrong hands. The movie also stars Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), Édgar Ramírez (Zero Dark Thirty) and Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project).
The film is directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) and written by Max Landis (Chronicle). Netflix spent over $90 million on the movie, according to publications like Deadline and The Verge. It’s just below Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie The Irishman. That movie’s budget is pegged at $125 million at least, according to Variety.
Smith is next seen (actually, heard) voicing a character with Tom Holland for an animated movie opening January 2019. In May 2019, Aladdin comes out with Smith as The Genie.
Bright releases through Netflix on Friday.
