Blu-ray Releases: 1/12/14 – 1/18/14

This week on Blu-ray: Australia and America share a release while Australia gets one release for itself while America gets six! Who has the better selection though? Let’s find out:

AUSTRALIAN RELEASES

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters comes to Blu-ray this week. The Logan Lerman fantasy had a $90 million budget and currently has $199.8 million worldwide which makes the film a current mild box office success. Two Blu-rays are available: one with a 3D copy and one without but both come with an Ultraviolet copy.

AMERICAN RELEASES

The Butler serves up the Blu-ray shelves this week. The Forest Whitaker-Oprah Winfrey drama had a $30 million budget and currently has $167.5 million worldwide making the film a box office success. The Blu-ray comes with an Ultraviolet copy.

Carrie comes to Blu-ray this week. The Chloe Moretz horror had a $30 million budget and made $82.3 million worldwide making the film a mild box office success. The Blu-ray comes with a DVD, Digital, and Ultraviolet copy.

Enough Said comes to Blu-ray this week. The Julia-Louis Dreyfus-James Gandolfini comedy had an unknown budget but currently has $21.8 million worldwide. The Blu-ray appears to just have the one disc.

Fruitvale Station arrives to Blu-ray this week. The Michael B. Jordan-Octavia Spencer drama had an unknown budget and made $16.4 million worldwide. The Blu-ray comes with a DVD and an Ultraviolet copy.

The Spectacular Now comes to Blu-ray this week. The Shailene Woodley-Mary Elizabeth Winstead dramedy had an unknown budget and made $6.8 million in the box office. The Blu-ray comes with a Digital and Ultraviolet copy.

You’re Next arrives on Blu-ray this week. The horror film had an unknown budget and made $18.4 million worldwide. The Blu-ray comes with a DVD, Digital, and Ultraviolet copy.

SHARED RELEASES

Riddick comes to Blu-ray this week. The Vin Diesel sci-fi fantasy had a $38 million budget and made $98.3 million worldwide making the film a mild box office success. Australia only gets an Ultraviolet copy while America gets a DVD and the Ultraviolet. We really enjoyed Riddick, read that review right here.

That’s it for this week on Blu-ray. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Australia’s films average out to 50% while America’s films average out to 77% making America the winner. The highest rated film was America’s Enough Said with a “Certified Fresh” 96% while the lowest rated was Australia’s Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters with a “Rotten” 40%. Do you plan on picking up any of these titles?
