Bullet Train is a film which comes directed by David Leitch who some may know as the director of Deadpool 2 (2018) or Atomic Blonde (2017). This film stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Andrew Koji, Sandra Bullok and Brian Tyree Henry.
According to IMDB, the synopsis of the film is as follows “Five assassins aboard a fast moving bullet train find out their missions have something in common.”
If you’re looking for an action film to watch at the cinema this week, then Bullet Train is likely something you’re considering seeing. But should you go and see it?
If you’re going into the cinema wanting just a pure action film, then Bullet Train will likely satisfy that urge. It’s not as big on the action as a big-budget blockbuster, but it does have a decent amount. It’s a bit more similar to a John Wick movie, but not as heavy, just a little lighter with the action. When comparing it to some very recent action film releases, you might have a better time with Netflix’s The Gray Man (2022) which was just released and is an amazing action film, it’s much larger in scale than Bullet Train though. To me, Bullet Train kind of feels like a lower-budget action film, that is still quite entertaining but doesn’t really compare well with all the other action films we are spoilt with in 2022.
The story is pretty basic, there’s not much to it. As a viewer, you will just follow Brad Pitt’s character. Ladybug as he tries to stay alive on this train. Brad Pitt does deliver a good performance and I found him to be very enjoyable here. A lot of the supporting cast are also pleasant to watch. There are no really annoying characters in this film and I appreciate that.
One thing I did really like, is the look of the film, the way the shots are taken on the train and the colouring. The colours on the screen are rich, there are lots of oranges, greens and blues. When this film reaches a home release, it will look amazing on anyone’s TV screen that has any sort of good HDR colours etc.
After watching this film, I thought it was good, it’s a bit of a time waster experience. It looks nice, it’s got good colours that pop on the cinema screen and a variety of actors that are entertaining. However, the story is a little bland, there’s not much there. It’s basically just a group of people on a train trying to kill each other. But it does work. I left the cinema thinking, wow! That was something entertaining and I liked it, I just probably won’t watch it again. It’s that kind of experience.

PROS
- Great use of colour
- The cast is pleasant to watch
CONS
- There's way too many action movies to watch and unfortunately they all have bigger budgets than Bullet Train.
