Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Review

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is the second film in the Jack Reacher series of films, which are based on the Jack Reacher novels from Lee Child. The film stars Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh and Aldis Hodge. It comes directed by Edward Zwick who some many know for films such as Pawn Sacrifice (2010) and The Last Samurai (2003).

The first Jack Reacher film wasn’t one that I really enjoyed that much, in fact when I was watching it on TV last year, I fell asleep during it and have no idea how it ended at all. Going into this second Jack Reacher film, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was hoping it was still good. I like watching Tom Cruise movies and was impressed with the recent Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation film.

In this film, we see Jack Reacher form the role of a protector, some very bad people are after him and they’re also after a young woman who may be his daughter. He’s gotta protect her but also help Susan (Cobie Smulders) to find out what’s wrong in the world and stop the bad guys. I don’t want to go into the plot of this film too much, but I found it to be a much more interesting film compared to the first Jack Reacher, actually I tink this was the better film of the two.

The action scenes are the films highest points. There is a lot of great hand to hand combat scenes featuring Jack Reacher up against a variety of different bad guys. But there’s also some pretty good action scenes involving guns there to see. I’ve not seen bad guys use such powerful guns just to get a few people, there was a scene where they were shooting at a car and massive holes were appearing, it’s all very good.

In terms of the acting, I always find Tom Cruise to be very good and his performance here is excellent. I also really enjoyed the performance from Cobie Smulders who I think really stood out in this film and had quite a few decent scenes. I didn’t really enjoy Danika Yarosh all that much, but she was Jack Reacher’s child and her character at times was a bit annoying because she kept doing really silly things that she’s not supposed to do, like putting expenses on a credit card which alerts the bad guys.

Overall I feel that Jack Reacher: Never Go Back was fun action film to watch. It’s not as big as a Mission Impossible film, but the action scenes are good enough to warrant a watch at the cinema this week. Both Tom Criuse and Cobie Smulders put in some great performances in this film and the two worked well together as an action film duo. If you enjoyed the first Jack Reacher film, I think you will really enjoy this one at the cinema this weekend.
