Now You See Me 2 Review

Now You See Me 2 is a sequel to the popular magic trick film of 2013. Most of the cast members are back for the second time, plus a few new ones as well. This film features popular actors such as Daniel Radcliffe, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine and Lizzy Caplan.

There’s only two reasons to go in and see this film, the first is if you like this cast of actors and the second is if you like seeing some pretty crazy magic tricks. The film easily delivers on the actor side with more than enough big names appearing in the film than you ever really need and the magic tricks aren’t bad either.

There are a lot of magic tricks in this film and for the most part I thought that they were probably all just some Hollywood special effects. There might be some real ones in there, but I couldn’t tell, they looked more like special effects to me though than actual practical effects. It’s okay either way really, there were some  pretty impressive tricks to see and some of them made me chuckle as well. The tricks are on about the same kind of level as the first film which I guess is a good thing to equal that, but I wouldn’t say it surpasses the original.

While there are many great actors to see here, characters are a little bit boring to watch and they’re forgettable as well. I watched both number 1 and number 2 last week and I barely know any of their names. I can’t really say that anyone really stood out real big in this film, all the actors deliver with their parts, but they have mostly forgettable characters.

Humour is a big plus, there are a lot of jokes in there to hear and I have to say that some of them are funny and had me chuckling here and there. The dialogue is also quick and fun. Director Jon M. Chu who some may also know as the man who brought us Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011), did well to maintain the tone and the pace of the original Now You See Me film. Fans of the first movie will really get a very similar experience with this sequel.

Overall Now You See Me 2 is a good popcorn film and it’s something I would recommend seeing if you have some time to waste over a weekend or you just want something light and not so serious to watch. It’s got a bit of jokes, some cool magic tricks and a great mix of actors. It’s possible for people to have fun with this one, just don’t go in expecting a high level of substance from the characters or the storyline. It’s just a bit of fun this one and if you liked the first one, you’ll likely enjoy this one as well.
