Blood brothers the the 5th episode of this season of Spartacus. It focuses on increasing tensions between Spartacus and Crixus which are easily exploited by the secreted Caesar within the walls under the name Liciscus. This episode is slightly less action and violence oriented compared to episode 4’s decimation scenes. It is more focused on strategy and skills of the tongue rather than brute force, violence or intimidation. It does have this great scene though which you can watch below between Crixus and Spartacus, could old rivalries be returning?

Apart from the rebel scenes there are some troubling moments for Kore (Jenna Lind) Crassus’ body slave with Tiberius (Crassus’ son) as she attempts to comfort him post decimation. Tiberius takes full advantage and rapes her in return placing her in most unfortunate position especially if Crassus finds out. Just what will he do?

Apart from this Spartacus moves to travel with Heracleo the pirate (Vince Colosimo) to strategically interfere with Crassus’ food supply then manoeuvre’s to attack Crassus towards the end of the episode but not all ends well for our hero Spartacus but you’ll just have to wait to see.

Spartacus has not only devised a strategy for fighting Crassus but moves to burden him also by releasing the hated Roman captives still yet alive within the city to Crassus. At the same time it seems it was all Spartacus’ intent to mislead Crixus all along to create the illusion of disunity within the city so that Laeta will tell Crassus what she witnessed as a captive. But will it work? Below is another scene from the episode; in hindsight in watching it after seeing the episode it’s interesting to wonder just who exactly is being played the fool here?

Overall it was another great episode for the show one based on manoeuvring the enemy and trying to trick everyone in the process. It seems though Spartacus was let down by those absent honour in the end and really should rely on his “Blood Brothers” for help. Overall the ending leaves much to be desired with future battles yet to occur in the next episode and everyone left with only one thing at the end which is anticipation for the next in the series the “Spoils of war”.
