The Hobbit is now the highest ever grossing film for the month of December beating the previous top contender I am Legend which grossed 77 million dollars back in 2007. The Hobbit grossed 84 million dollars in its opening weekend with seats filled with people wanting to see the film.
According to the IMDB charts the Hobbit was far ahead of any close competitor with the top 5 grossing films for the same weekend being:
- The Hobbit: An unexpected journey84.8 million
- Rise of the Guardians 7.42 million
- Lincoln 7.24 million
- Skyfall 7 million
- Life of Pi 5.4 million
The Hobbit is now showing around the world but opens in the next few weeks in Australia, Iceland and Poland on the 26th of December 2012.
