Whoopi Goldberg had some interesting news for Marvel fans on The View today.
“It’s a huge day in the Marvel Universe. Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he’s no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That’s right. Thor is a woman!” Goldberg said.
The pictures that have been released cover up her face, so we don’t know who is now worthy of wielding Mjolnir. What we do know is that Thor has saved her life before. That narrows it down to about a million people.
The current Thor series will now come to an end with a new series debuting for the new character. Current Thor writer Jason Aaron is staying on for the new series while artist Russell Dauterman is taking the reigns from Esad Ribic. Russell’s previous works include Supurbia for Boom! Studios, Nightwing for DC Comics, and Cyclops for Marvel.
What about the original Thor? Well, he’s still here. Instead of his magical hammer Mjolnir, he will be toting the axe Jornbjorn. We already saw the old Thor with his new equipment on the cover of Avengers #35.
The lady Thor series will launch later this year.
