Top Gun: Maverick Review

ShareShareShareShare

Top Gun: Maverick is a film which comes directed by Joseph Kosinski who some may know as the director of Only The Brave (2017) or Oblivion (2013). The film stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm, Monica Barbaro and Glen Powell. Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel to the highly popular Top Gun (1986) and is a continuation of Maverick’s story many years later.

According to IMDB, the synopsis of Top Gun: Maverick is as follows “After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.”

The film has some amazing action sequences, many of which were filmed without using cgi/green screen, giving viewers a visually rich experience. As the film takes place many years after the original film was released, fans will get to see Maverick fly some of the newer jets that the military now has available. Each of the flight scenes look fantastic on the big screen and the action sequences never get boring. Thee’s no other movie that will give you a better dog fighting and jet flying action experience at the cinema.

There’s a lot of nostalgia for fans of the first Top Gun film with multiple references to the first film (recommend a rewatch before going into this one). Maverick is pushed to his limits and Tom Cruise delivers a fantastic performance. Other cast members such as Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm and Monica Barbaro all were very impressive.

I highly recommend watching Top Gun: Maverick at the cinema if you can. It might be the best film of 2022 so far! It’s nice to get a chance to see Tom Cruise play Maverick again and it’s even better that the film has a solid plot and many excellent action sequences. You can tell that Tom Cruise and the rest of the crew that worked on the film put a lot of effort into making this one a special experience. I think they respected the fans of the original Top Gun quite well and I’m happy to recommend Top Gun: Maverick as something to see this week at the cinema if you can.
