Caution: There Are Spoilers In The Walking Dead Something They Need Review
The Walking Dead Something They Need is the 15th episode of the 7th season of The Walking Dead, it’s also the penultimate episode for this season. It’s an important episode for the overarching plot of the the season as tensions between Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) group continue to increase more and more.
In this episode we see Rick continuing to make an effort with his group to make some type of stand against Negan and his group. One of the major sections for this episode was centred around Rick and his people travelling to the Oceanside group, which if you remember a few episodes back, it was the group Tara (Alanna Masterson) was stuck with during her standalone episode this season. There’s some questions about the ethics of Rick’s actions as he pretty much just sends Tara in as a decoy, storms the Oceanside camp and says he’s taking their weapons so he can go fight the saviours.
When watching the episode I actually prefer this development, you get to see for once after a long time just how strong Rick’s group actually is and also how well organised they are. It also shows how really defenceless the Oceanside group was, it seemed easy to take all their weapons away. Also in contrast looking back on it, their leader seems foolish to think they could last so long there, if it wasn’t Rick’s group, it was only a matter of time before someone else would come for them.
The episode also has a big focus on what was going on with Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) who was captured during last week’s episode. It’s interesting because you never really know what you can expect from Negan. Although he gives her a similar offer of joining his group as he did with Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) in some of the earlier episodes. Everything was great about it, although I did feel that the knife scene with the bad guy at the start was possibly lacking enough blood. Not sure what went on there or it was just a toning down of the violence for the show.
There’s a revelation at the end of the episode with Dwight appearing in Rick’s group’s camp and possibly wanting to help them take down Negan. It’s a bit odd and I didn’t expect it to happen, sure I knew a few episodes ago (see here) that Dwight seems to be a character pushed quite a lot by Negan and is likely to betray him. But he could also be a spy. It will be interesting to see how it develops in the next episode.
Overall this is a solid episode for The Walking Dead with a lot of developments on the side of Rick’s group which should lead into some action next week for the finale. It will be interesting to see where the show takes us and also if all the characters will survive the finale. Hopefully we don’t get a cliffhanger like last year though!
