For those who have been excited for the upcoming launch of the PS5, but anxious as to whether it would be an all digital console or not. They might be wondering does the PS5 have a disc drive. The answer to this question is yes.
Does the PS5 have a disc drive?
The ability of the PS5 to have a disc drive was revealed during one of Sony’s recent information sessions for the console in which the specs were detailed. You can read about the full PS5 specs here.
The PS5 disc drive will be able to handle Ultra HD Blu-ray™ discs. These discs are able to store up to 100GB per disc. It is not known yet how large PS5 games may be but compared to both the PS4 and the PS3 disc storage, storage capacity has been doubled, previously the consoles used 50GB Blu-ray discs.
Some may be wondering does the PS5 have a disc drive? Due to their interest in watching 4k movies and TV shows. Ultra HD Blu-ray™ discs are able to play 4k content and are used in many popular UHD Blu-ray disc players. The PS5 will have support for UHD Blu-Ray content at launch. This means that you’ll be able to watch 4k Blu-ray content on your PS5 and this would include both movies and TV shows.
UHD Blu-ray discs support 4k content at a resolution of 3840 × 2160 and are capable 60 frames per second.
