Don’t Breathe is the latest horror film to hit the cinemas and it’s one that I think is one of the best horror experiences of the year. If you are a fan of horror films at the cinema and you love watching a decent thriller, then I believe that Don’t Breathe will be a great experience for you this weekend. The film stars Stephen Lang, Jane Levy and Dylan Minnette.
In recent months I have found myself to be increasingly interested in the horror genre. There’s quite a few good ones that have come out this year and of course quite a few mediocre ones as well, but not one where I thought, WOW! That’s a good one! With Don’t Breathe, I felt that feeling and that’s a feeling I want to feel when watching a film.
The film comes directed by Fede Alvarez who I thought did a phenomenal job with Don’t Breathe. I wouldn’t say that the film is 100% a horror film, there are quite a lot of elements to it that would make me say that it is more of a thriller. But it’s the balancing of these two genres of films together that make Don’t Breathe so exhilarating to watch. Honestly I don’t know what’s going to happen to the characters that enter into the blind man’s house or how they’ll get out. It was thrilling to see their journey and also creepy to see the blind man coming after them in the dark.
Most of the actors in this film are unknown to me and are probably unlikely to be recognised by the masses. But they all actually put in solid performances. Stephen Lang was well cast for the role as the creepy and powerful mad man who lives there in the dark. Jane Levy also put in a good performance for this film and as the central character that we follow, she was able to bring a lot of emotion to the role which was great as it helps the audience to care about her character and what becomes of her in that house.
Overall I would highly recommend going to the cinemas this week and watching Don’t Breathe, especially if you love horror films or a decent thriller. Both Stephen Lang and Jane Levy put in great performances and the film has all the suspense and mystery one needs to keep their heart racing throughout the full run time. Don’t Breathe is probably director Fede Alvarez’s best film so far and in my opinion it is also one of the best horror films of 2016.
