Mad Max Fury Road is the fourth Mad Max film from director George Miller and it is the first Mad Max film since Beyond The Thunderdome 30 years ago. Mad Max Fury Road stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough and Abbey Lee. Mad Max is a post apocalyptic action film where the people fight for what is left of the scarce resources in the world, such as fuel and water. It’s dangerous, it’s rough and everyone is completely mad.

Mad Max Fury Road Review

Mad Max Fury Road is the best action film to release so far in 2015 and one of the best action films to release in recent times. If you don’t like action films then it’s hard to recommend that you go and see Mad Max Fury Road, as the whole film is like one solid action sequence that lasts almost the whole way from the beginning to the end, with only a few stopping points in between.

What’s happening in Mad Max Fury Road is that Furiosa (Charlize Theron) has escaped the hold of Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) by stealing one of his vehicles known as the “War Rig” which contains cargo that is very precious to Immortan Joe. Immortan Joe gathers his gang of equally mad men who have very fast and powerful cars, trucks and a drum kit. They chase Furiosa across the desert so that Immortan Joe can get his stuff back. Max (Tom Hardy) is a prisoner of Immortan Joe and is captured early on in the film, he is of course, brought along for this chase and has quite the day really.

Mad Max Fury Road is a 120 minute, action fans dream film. Anyone who is paying to see this film to see explosions, car chases and fight scenes will get every dollar of value given to them and more from George Miller. It’s said that over 80% of the films effects are practical effects with real vehicles used, real make up and real explosions. According to IMDB’s trivia page CGI was used sparingly by George Miller, mainly it was used for Furiosa’s arm and to edit some of the background from where it was filmed. The directing of this film by George Miller is phenomenal really and you really do see something that you don’t get much of in the cinema these days, as most films like Avengers: Age Of Ultron rely on CGI so much. Mad Max Fury Road is a refreshing piece of modern cinema.

The soundtrack in Mad Max Fury Road is also something that stands out in the film. Music is played both inside the world of the film as well as over the top of action scenes. There are some really great drum beats from Junkie XL who some may know as the people that created the music in 300: Rise Of An Empire and interestingly, will be doing to music for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

In the film there is a great use of costumes and character designs with a variety of interesting and crazy characters to look at. There’s even some madman who has a truck with drum kits attached to it and a performer that uses a flamethrower guitar that plays music while following Immortan Joe on a chase. Immortan Joe is the most interesting looking of the characters and looks really dangerous, but even minor people like Nux or even Max himself are well designed.

The actors all do a fine job with their scenes and Tom Hardy as well as Charlize Theron are the true standouts amongst the cast. But all the minor characters and actors are all interesting to watch as they perform all their crazy stunts and sequences. The only real flaw the film has is with its story which is incredibly simplistic. It’s hard to talk about the plot as it can really be told in like 2 minutes to someone, but people really are going in to see this for the action sequences and they are truly awesome.

Overall Mad Max Fury Road is the best action film to release in 2015 so far and maybe even one of the best ones this decade as well. It’s got some great performances from Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron who are very entertaining to watch on screen. While George Miller takes care of his audiences interests by providing a non-stop action flick that doesn’t ever really slow down at all. I highly recommend checking out Mad Max Fury Road if you can on the biggest and loudest cinema screen you can find and you’ll see one of the best action films in recent years.
