The Resident Evil film series has been around for a long time now, this is now the sixth film in the series and it still seems to me to be just as fun as the rest. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter sees Milla Jovovich return as Alice yet again and she’s joined by cast members such as Iain Glen (Dr. Isaacs), William Levy (Christian), Ali Larter (Claire Redfield) and Ruby Rose (Abigail). The film starts off just after the events of Resident Evil: Retribution and we get to see Alice and her friends battle the undead and the umbrella corporation.

I’ve always enjoyed watching the films from the Resident Evil series and felt it had been too long since I’ve seen one at the cinema. After the announcement of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, I was very interested to see how this one would be. Similar to Underworld: Blood Wars, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is for those who love going into action films for the big fight scenes and explosions, while also getting little bit of supernatural/science fiction stuff thrown in there to enjoy.
The action scenes in this one were in my view arguably one of the best in the series, although certain films in the series may have better scenes than this one does. I suppose that’s for the fans to argue about though. In Resident Evil: The Final Chapter there’s a lot more human v human fights than there are of Alice going up against he undead. While the undead are present and feature prominently, the main focus of the plot is based on Alice taking on the Umbrella corp and the people who work there.
Where I believe the film is at its strongest is with it villain, Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glenn) who does seem to become quite the formidable opponent for Alice and the two really go at each other in this one.
Most of the most enjoyable scenes were the exchanges between Milla Jovovich and Iain Glenn who have the most interesting characters in the film, they both put in great performances.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson has done well with this one, the film is entertaining, fun, action packed and fast paced. Things never really slow down and for those who are going in for just action scenes, the director keeps them coming. One could argue that the plot isn’t as intriguing as Resident Evil (2002) which was also directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, but it’s also the sixth film in the series so I guess it’s to be expected by many, it is good fun though.
Overall Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is a fun addition to the Resident Evil film series and should deliver what fans of the series want out of the experience. Both Iain Glenn and Milla Jovovich put in some entertaining performances and director Paul W.S. Anderson keeps the action scenes coming for most of the films run time. For action film people or those who are fans of this series, this is sure to be a fun time at the cinema this week.
I would like to let you know that it might be a good idea to catch up on previous films, especially the one before this if you can’t remember it too well as it does expect you to know quite a bit of the story, but other than that, it should be a fun time at the cinema this week.
I used to be a fan of these movies until I saw Afterlife and Retribution. Love turned to hate. That’s my relationship with this franchise, which in a way reflects its downfall in quality. For me, action scenes are not enough. There needs to be plot, an interesting story. I guess that’s why I hate Retribution. It has no plot, and even the action scenes are so stale. The first 3 movies were OK to me.
I am a die hard fan of Underworld movies. They are great. By contrast, I find it hard to even get through the trailer of RE the final chapter.
But I really enjoy the CG RE movies, Degeneration and Damnation. They’re in line with the video games. 🙂
I actually prefer the Underworld series a lot more than I do the Resident Evil film series. Underworld has always been better with its story, that’s why I like it more, but I had a good time with this one and enjoyed the action.
