From now on Sim City will be playable without an internet connection. Players will be able to enjoy their game anytime they like on their computers without even connecting. Players will be able to gain the offline game mode through a new free game update for Sim City. Players will be notified of the update the next time they log into Sim City.
The update will allow players to build, save, reload and destroy cities all within their own environment while playing the game. Patrick Buechner, GM of Maxis Emeryville said “Player feedback has helped us deliver 10 major gameplay Updates that have improved the experience with better tuning, new features and free content. This is the most definitive SimCity experience whether you choose to play Online or Offline.”

Players will still be able to play online though, the update is about giving a choice to the players to either play online or offline depending on the experience they are wanting to have. The game was originally meant to be a pure online experience. Due to the immense player demand for an offline mode, developers at Maxis spent a long time working on their Glass Box game engine to bring the offline mode to the PC game. Which is now available from today.
