Caution There Are Spoilers In The Walking Dead – Go Getters Review
Go Getters is the fifth episode for this season of The Walking Dead and it’s an episode that firmly centres itself around Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and their time at Jesus’ (Tom Payne’s) group. Maggie is the only character that we haven’t seen much of at all this season and is one I think that probably should have been seen much earlier, I mean it was her partner that was killed in episode one. but ah well, she’s here now.
Additionally, a large part of this episode is devoted to Negan’s group and their influence over this town. We see them come in and mess things up quite a bit, they let walkers come in at night and then visit the next day to take half of their stuff again. A part of me doesn’t really mind this storyline in the episode, but it is something that we’ve seen happen in quite a few episodes already. We saw Negan himself last week come visit Rick’s group and we saw members of Negan’s group visit King Ezekiel not long ago as well. It’s a little like we’re watching the same thing again here, I think I get it now. Negan takes stuff from different groups.
In some ways I also appreciated this episode as well. While it had some dark themes which have really overshadowed this season of the show. It felt more like The Walking Dead I knew from past seasons. I had come to miss seeing the walkers on screen and while I like the human villain stories centred around Negan and his group, it’s becoming a bit much at times. The Maggie story in this episode was mainly all around whether or not she’s allowed to stay with Jesus and his group or not. There’s not much there really, but it still was pretty good to have a lighter episode to watch.
There’s also a bit at the end with Carl (Chandler Riggs) sneaking away from Rick’s group with Enid (Katelyn Nacon). Enid leaves to go visit Maggie who she’s worried about, but Carl is going for Negan, he wants to get revenge.
I guess next week’s episode is going to be an action packed Carl one? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
By far this has been one of the worst episodes i’ve ever watched on the walking dead to date.
