Brigitte is a new hero soon to be released in Overwatch and is currently available for PC players to try on the PTR. But many must be wondering when will Brigitte be in comp? Recently Blizzard developer Scott Mercer took to the Blizzard Overwatch forums and left the following comment about Brigitte:
“Starting with the releases of Blizzard World and Brigitte, we made the decision to debut new maps and heroes in Competitive Play at the beginning of the season that follows their release. This means that Brigitte will become available in Competitive Play when Season 10 begins, just as Blizzard World became available at the beginning of Season 9. This will help give each competitive season a stronger identity, as well as provide the community with plenty of time to learn how to play with new maps or heroes.”
What he is essentially saying is that it’s going to be some time before we see Brigitte in competitive play. The current season of Overwatch ends in 41 days as of March 17, 2013 so that means it’s still quite a wait until we get to see how Brigitte will be in comp.
It’s not known yet when she will appear in quick play. But if her release is like other heroes in the past, she might be online the week before going live in competitive. Possibly Blizzard might make her available sooner, but we’ll have to wait and see.
It will be interesting to see how Brigitte who is a new support hero might impact on the current competitive meta, but that’s 41 days away still.
Update (March 21 2018): Brigitte was made available today in quick play and arcade for both PC and console players. to enjoy But there will still be a wait for her to appear in competitive play.
We did see a response from Jeff Kaplan as many were asking when will Brigitte be in comp? With some becoming worried about why there was such a delay compared to other heroes that launched previously and went into competitive play much quicker.
Jeff Kaplan took to the Blizzard forums to explain why she is delayed and said:
“We’re following this feedback closely. We made this change with the best intentions as we frequently heard complaints from players that we were introducing new heroes to Competitive Play too quickly.
Let’s see how this plays out for Brigitte and then we’ll re-evaluate for next time.
Thanks for being patient with us.”
It seems at least for now that Brigitte will be in comp for season 10 of Overwatch.
