Zombieland Double Tap Review

Zombieland: Double Tap is a film which comes directed by Ruben Fleischer who some may know as the director of Venom (2019) or Zombieland (2009). The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. This is the second film in the Zombieland franchise and this one comes out after a 10 year gap between when the first film was released.

Zombieland: Double Tap was a film that actually flew completely under my radar this year. Mainly this is my own fault as I had never really heard of the first film and had somehow not known it existed for the entire last 10 years. This is even worse for me because Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg are two of my favourite actors at the moment and I have no idea how I didn’t know about Zombieland. About a week before I went to see Double Tap I made sure to watch the first one to prepare for it, how could I not, knowing that my favourite actors were all in there. After seeing the first film, I have to say, I loved it! Then after coming out of the screening of Double Tap, I can also say that I loved this one too.

Zombieland: Double Tap keeps all of the charm and wit of the first film and at the same time expands on the film’s universe. It is filled with pop culture references and bunch of zombie related jokes. The gore seemed a little higher in this film to me than in the first, but honestly it was a lot of fun.

I saw this movie I think a week later after coming out of seeing Joker (which I still think is this year’s best film) and to be honest after seeing something so dark and intense, it was nice to follow it up the next week with something light. Zombieland: Double Tap seemed to be perfectly placed with its release this month and I absolutely loved it.

In this film all of the original cast return and we see Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin once again play these characters. The actors have become quite well known in the last 10 years and their talents shine through. It seemed like they were having fun making this movie and the cast were well balanced.  There’s nothing really to complain about.

As an action movie, you will get a decent amount of Zombie gore and fight scenes. The film’s light tone means much of it is done in a comedic way, which had the audience I was with laughing throughout much of the adventure.

Overall I’d say to definitely go and see Zombieland: Double Tap at the cinema this weekend. The film is funny, has decent action sequences and an excellent cast. If you loved the first film in this series, you will certainly enjoy this one. If you’re not sure about this franchise, you can easily watch the first one before you go to the cinema as it’s currently available on Netflix. I had a lot of fun with Zombieland: Double Tap and it’s certainly one I’d recommend if you want to see something light and fun at the cinema this weekend.
