Funcom and Astrolabe Interactive have released Discovery & Ancestry, the final major Early Access content update for Aloft. The update became available on 26 August 2026.
Discovery & Ancestry introduces the Wind Spirit, a companion that players can befriend and bring on their airborne journeys. It helps players harness and control the winds while exploring a world of floating islands.
The update adds new sub-biomes, including jungles, snowy regions, prairie fields and dense woods. Dynamic cluster events include fog banks, tornadoes and asteroid fields, while the reworked Spyglass and Table-Map provide new ways to navigate and survey the world.
An engine upgrade from Unity 2021 to Unity 6 creates new opportunities for improved performance and visuals. The update also introduces a revamped world, reworked user interface, and updated progression and navigation systems.
Players can find new building pieces and stockpiles for their homes. Ancestral Memories allow them to learn from their ancestors and unlock character upgrades.
Other additions include new farmable plants, chained Life Trees, Sewing Kits, Dew Catchers, Wind Vanes and Corruption Hearts. The development team will focus on the upcoming 1.0 launch after any potential fixes for this update, with further details to come.
Aloft is available through Steam Early Access.
